The Best Summer-to-Fall Pieces to Transition Your Wardrobe

Real talk: Fall is most definitely here. And, with the change of seasons comes a change in wardrobe. But there is that tricky time period in between called the transitional days when you’re stuck wondering what the hell to wear. It’s chilly in the morning but you're hot by noon. It’s too warm for sweaters but not warm enough for tanks and dresses. Your summer wardrobe reminds you of sun-kissed days and outdoor adventures and you don’t want to give them up just yet. Am I right?

Good news: You don’t need to do a complete closet overhaul just yet. I’m going to show you how to effortlessly transform a classic summer outfit into one that works for a warm, fall day—most likely with pieces you already have in your closet.

THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS

I wear my little black dress with sandals in the summer, but when there is a chill in the air, textured polka dot hose from Amazon, a turtleneck, and Jimmy Choo knee-high boots make this outfit fall appropriate.

WHITE MAXI SUNDRESS

I wasn’t ready to put my white maxi dress to rest just yet, so I paired it with an H&M puffy-sleeved sweater and knee-high boots. They’re perfect layering pieces for summer-to-fall days.

FLORAL MAXI WRAP DRESS

I’m feeling the Cottagecore craze these days. You know, the English countryside trend that stems from embracing the simple things in life? Perfect for a socially distant farmer’s market run, I’ve paired this French provincial-style summer dress from Amazon with a pair of Saint Laurent tan suede boots and a chunky knit sweater.

PRINTED BODICE MIDI DRESS

Now that my nude sandals are stored away, I wear my Reformation bodice dress with a pair of Zara kitten heels and a tuxedo-style blazer, also from Zara. A structured blazer as outerwear is the perfect fall essential because it poses well as a light jacket. I also have my trusty black scarf for an evening chill.

CLASSIC JEAN SHORTS

There is a small window in the fall to go bare-legged with a classic pair of jean shorts, so take advantage now! Here, I layered the same Zara blazer over a crisp white button down and swapped my summer sneaks for a pair of slip-on mules.
